Urgent plea from the American Imports Agents' Association
By: Ben Klemenzson
Plans are afoot to close all regional DVLA offices. Act now to avert this action!
Dealing with government departments has never been an appealing task for the general public – or even those in business who need to conduct their affairs through such portals. Even when sitting face to face with a civil servant across the counter, it is often a daunting prospect, frequently troublesome and at worst, traumatic.
When you read the contents of the DVLA press release, you will appreciate that registering your vehicle, assigning a cherished number or any activity related to driving is going to be more painful by at least an order of magnitude. For once, the AIAA is strongly in favour of keeping this layer of bureaucracy in place. Without it, the already under-resourced DVLA head office in Swansea will push our specialist requirements to the bottom of the pile, giving favour to the manufacturers.
In other words, we could well be faced with delays measured in months rather than weeks to get our imported rides registered. So please take some time to avail yourselves of the e-petition online and make your voice heard. Or like the village corner shop, you may end up bitterly regretting the demise of local DVLA offices when it is too late to do anything about it.
