Mix-it up!
By: Web Editor
This month’s Classic American really sums up what this magazine is all about – it’s a veritable smorgasbord of everything American and automotive!
I know I’m not the only American auto enthusiast who loves everything from Thirties Packards to Eighties Buick Grand Nationals… and everything in between. The latter feature may strike some as a little controversial with its title ‘The last American muscle car’. However, read the article and draw your own conclusions – we’re always hearing arguments about what was the first American muscle car, so it’s interesting to hear why this one may be considered (rightly or wrongly) the last.
I can’t deny having a soft spot for GM’s Eighties G-body cars (Chevy Monte Carlo, Buick Regal, Olds Cutlass and Pontiac Grand Prix); I owned an ’82 Monte Carlo which I bought for the princely sum of £125. Admittedly I had to spend double that to get it back on the road, but it was my daily driver for five years and I can hand-on-heart say it was probably the best car I’ve ever owned. Reliable, cheap to run and incredibly comfortable – even today it’s still on road, now living as a low rider in Prague – you couldn’t make it up could you?
But then that’s what’s so great about American cars and why we love them… But then I don’t need to tell you that since you’re reading this magazine in the first place. Enjoy!
