It’s a Family Affair

This year’s Classic Motor Show has “running in the family” as its theme, which got me thinking about how many of us have inherited our enthusiasm for American cars and trucks from our families.

It’s a Family Affair

Klemenzson Senior’s Jeep

I’m lucky enough to be the third generation in my family to own and run American cars. While my grandfather may have chosen Whippet Overlands and Buicks because their rugged construction was ideally suited to the poor road conditions in the early 20th century (something my father mirrored in his choice of a Willys Jeep a generation later), I can’t make such practical claims for my choice of American vehicles.

I recently received an email from a reader, who with his brother keeps six American vehicles at a three-bedroom semi in suburban London – now that’s enthusiasm! Of course if you’ve never owned an American car or had that passion it’s not something you could understand...

I couldn’t tell you the first thing about football, but then I’d never claim to be a football enthusiast; to do so would be dishonest.

Spirit and enthusiasm are something that the American car scene in this country has always enjoyed and despite the current economic climate, I know I’m
not alone in believing my passion for these vehicles goes beyond mere economics.

Classic American will be celebrating all that’s great and good in the American car scene at the Classic Motor Show with one of the largest stands of American cars at the event, so why not make a date and come down and share your passion with us and the other car owners on the stand!
