Footman James Car of the Year Round 3!
By: Ben Klemenzson
Round 3 of the Footman James Car of the Year Competition took place at the Stars and Stripes Show, Tatton Park, Cheshire ...
Rob Woodall's 1964 Ford Mustang
Rob Woodall’s beautiful 1964 ½ Mustang first came to our attention two years ago. In many ways Rob’s Mustang and his involvement in it embodies what Car of the Year is all about, as Rob has spent a lot of time restoring it and in the process creating one of the nicest-looking early Mustangs you’re likely to see.
The car is originally from Arizona and when he purchased it in 2005 it was described as ‘an older restoration’. Superficially it looked fine, but underneath a multitude of sins lurked, requiring him to replace two rear floor pans and repair corrosion to both rear quarters, the front wings and the doors.
Originally Sky Blue, the ’Stang was bright red when he acquired it and is now a period correct Mustang colour known as ‘Prairie Bronze’. Originally the car was a manual, however at some stage the transmission was swapped for an automatic ’box, which Rob himself swapped for a Ford AOD unit, which he reckons makes for effortless high speed economical cruising on the motorway
