Desperately seeking...

Dear Classic American,...Ever since my twenties during the late Seventies and early Eighties, when I first saw a black and white model at a pre 50 AAC meeting at Cosgrove, I’ve been looking to buy 1959 two-door Dodge Custom Royal Lancer.

It must be a 1959 two-door model, V8, auto and although I love the convertible, they are out of my price range. I may take a Coronet if it’s a two-door, V8, auto. Four times I’ve come very close to buying one, twice putting down deposits on the same car, only for the seller to change his mind! Plus there was a wasted effort on a South Carolina car, which is too long a story to tell.

It’s all been very disappointing. I will view all cars, just send some history and photos to the magazine with your price and I’ll arrange to view. I’ve cash waiting for the right car at a fair price. I’m a long-term American car enthusiast and ex-car club chairman Virgin Exner Forward Look. I owned a 1957 De Soto for some 15 years. At that stage I knew of almost all the ’59 Dodges in the UK: Rod Rigby’s white D500, Dave Habel’s blue and white car, the red and black swivel seat model... ideally I would like to form some sort of register for these cars again. Len Ashton’s model featured in the March 2010 edition of Classic American is another dream car.

I’ve owned nine Fifties and Sixties American cars myself during approximately 36 years of driving; my first was a ’57 Plymouth Savoy which I had at 16 years old. I also owned a 1958 Skyliner Ford Retractable for over 12 years and always have had at least one American model at one time ever since. At present it’s a 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 convertible 390cu in stacked light model, but I want a Dodge before it’s too late and would love that 10th car of ownership to be a ’59 Lancer. Thank you for this help in this search.
